In the Dark Ages of web design, you were limited to only standard fonts that came with every machine. With the advent of CSS 3, however, you can just include a link to a custom font, and then use that font throughout your site.
The Font Face widget allows you to upload a custom font file. Then just use the name of the custom font in your CSS.
Here are some suggestions for custom fonts:
- Make logos responsive. Instead of using an image for your logo, use a custom font. That way, the logo will look right at any size.
- Draw attention to headlines. A distinctive font will draw the eye. Use custom fonts for headlines or other areas that you want to stand out.
- Use sparingly. Using too many fonts is a design no-no and it can cause your pages to load slowly. Stick to 1 – 3 custom fonts per site.
